THE TRIAL FOR MILOSEVIC
By Professor Maurizio Arcari

In the context of the International Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia, a path, dedicated to Milosevic, has been developed. The mock trial aims at exploring the courtyard, meet the protagonists, and retrace the stages of the procedings. Noteworthy is the availability of the original video clips of the debate .

THE WEST BANK BARRIER
By Professor David Kretzmer

The construction of the barrier by the state of Israel has resulted in two separate cases, one by the Israel Supreme Court, the other by the International Court of Justice in Hague. Starting from the socio-economic issues raised by the wall, simulated in 3D, the key issues addressed by the two courts are analyzed.

FREEDOM OF EXPRESSION AND RACIST HATE SPEECH IN THE USA
By Professor Paolo Carozza

The First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution says that “Congress shall make no law … abridging the freedom of speech”. A series of Supreme Court cases have helped to define how Congress can and cannot regulate speech. Specifically, this immersive trial concerns two very sensitive USSC cases regarding the phenomenon of cross burning in US and the problem of hate speech.

HOW TO USE FOR TEACHERS AND STUDENTS

The teacher uses the application to create a face-to-face lesson for students, both in the classroom (with projector) and remotely (via video conference or webinar).

Students can navigate in the immersive trial individually through their terminal, using it as an immersive “instalment”. Through external links they can consult and explore further sources.

The user can interact with the immersive trial following different paths:

HOW IT WORKS: FUNCTIONALITY, CONTENTS, INTERFACE

The scene of the trial is the core of the immersive experience. A 3D simulation of the court and the participants is carried out.

The introductory contents are accessible from an interface: the historical framework, the legal context.

The user experience includes the presentation of the main protagonists, identified with a label showing the role in the trial, the photo, the biographical card.

The development of the process is presented with a series of scenes represented in computer graphics. The shot shifts to the protagonist who speaks. His statement is reproduced, with in-depth informations and, when available, with the original video. The user can continue to follow the process by going to the next scene, or go to the phases of his interest.

In some cases there may a "stargate": from a scene of the process it can be possible to move to another scene, which represents a relevant event for the trial or to understand the historical or social context.

At any point in the trial, the introductory content can always be accessed. These are different modules, presented along with videos, texts or external links, which are clickable in an external interface of the scene, as if it were an interactive “frame”.
